The Requirements
California has strengthened the Nevaeh Youth Sports Safety Act regarding safety training for coaches, and the new amendments directly impact every youth sports organization in the state.
By January 1, 2027
Every youth sports coach in California must be officially certified in CPR, trained to operate an AED correctly and efficiently, and have written cardiac emergency response plans.
By January 1, 2028
All youth sports programs must ensure that an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is available at every official practice and match.
These requirements were finalized when the bill was approved by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of State on October 3, 2025, marking a significant update in recent youth sports news.
