Everyone deserves access to lifesaving training. In honor of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, join us Thursday, October 16, for Capital City CPR’s first annual CPR-A-THON as we work to empower the community with the life-saving skills needed to increase the survival rate for cardiac arrest.

CPR-A-THON Details
From 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. we’re providing free hands-only CPR and AED training on the Capitol Mall, outside the California State Capitol building, with sessions every hour on the hour for any and all to come by and learn how to help save a life.
What You’ll Learn
The free training, led by our medically trained instructors with real-world experiences, will cover learning how to:
Identify sudden cardiac arrest
Administer hands-only chest compressions
Use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
The community-wide event will also involve a resource fair with local vendors including:
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District
Sacramento City Fire Department
Sacramento State’s EMT program
Sacramento Area Bike Advocates (S.A.B.A) will also provide free valet bike parking so you can ride your bike to the event knowing it will be safe and secure while you enjoy our engaging, hands-on training.

Why It’s Important
Every year, more than 350,000 people in the U.S. suffer from cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, and only 10% survive. This statistic is largely due to a lack of citizen CPR training and proper use of AEDs. With the correct training and immediate action with CPR and AED, a person’s chance of surviving sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital can be doubled or tripled. With this event, our goal is to increase the survival rates of cardiac arrest within Sacramento, a city whose survival rates are lower than those of cities with similar population sizes.
Our Audacious Goal
We aim to train 1,000 people in a single day. The event is open to everyone, so bring your friends, families, coworkers, or school groups at any point throughout the day. The age recommendation is 10 and up, and all equipment will be provided. The school that registers before October 10 and brings the most people will win a free Avive Connect AED® along with free training and certification for 10 people with Capital City CPR.
