Service Description

Join the Mountain Training Network and Vertical Pursuits and learn valuable life-saving first aid and rescue skills. This course will be 100% outdoors and will involve wilderness medicine and trauma care concepts that will be translated into the vertical environment. After learning and practicing treatments for multi-system trauma patients, students will practice providing medical care on the wall. This will be followed by a review of technical self rescue techniques to get you and your injured climbing partner to the ground or ledge safely. Basic belaying skills are required. Course availability is limited to maintain a low student to instructor ratio. The course will be held at either Donner Summit or the Cosumnes River Gorge. Limited availability to maintain low instructor to student ratio, register now. About your instructors: Ryan Armstrong is a Wilderness EMT and has been teaching Wilderness Medicine and technical rescue courses for 5 years. In addition to medical experience, he brings years of outdoor leadership and guiding into his teaching. Erik Griffith: "My name is Erik and I’m the founder and lead guide for Vertical Pursuits. My journey in the mountains started when I was 18, mostly revolving around bouldering and breaching into the outdoor climbing world. When I was 20 years old I embarked on a 2 year guide course that took me through the Northern Ice Cap of Patagonia, Picos De Europa of Spain and up to the rugged Eastern Alaskan Range. Since then, I have traveled and guided in various places until I made Yosemite Valley my home and training ground for over 4 years. While I lived in Yosemite, I made multiple trips up El Capitan, including in a day ascents, and free climbed many of the classic formations and routes in the park."
